Break down on epoxy floor coatings, types and their benefits.
Floors are usually something to which we don’t pay much attention unless something is wrong with them and yet they are an essential part of workday productivity and safety. You may want to consider an alternative flooring option for your facility and its potential impact. Some of these options includes epoxy floor coating, Polyurethane floor coating, Polyaspartic floor coating, etc.
But the scope of my briefing this afternoon is only on epoxy floor coatings. Others will be for another time or on my training forums.
Epoxy is a material that acts as a sealant for concrete floors. Epoxy coatings can be used on floors for commercial buildings, walkways, even on walls or ceilings at times, and most commonly on garage floors. But recently, the advancement of resinous industry (epoxy industry) discovered that 3 dimensional graphics can also be used while installing epoxy floor and that leads to what most of us called 3D floors.
Many facilities that have already experienced huge benefits of epoxy flooring are commercial or industrial buildings such as manufacturing plants, hospital, warehouses, pharmaceutical buildings, food or beverage plants, even laboratories.
Epoxy is nothing strange but a simple but careful combination of chemicals from polymer family and using it as a sealant to protect a concrete, wooden, metallic or any other type of solid substrate through careful application with designs and styles by professional applicators.
These chemical coatings are professionally combined and applied in order to get a magnificent result.
Now let's look into types of epoxy coatings.
Basically, epoxy floor types are 3 in Numbers although the 3 types were further subdivided.
The basic three includes.
1) Industrial: this is a highly built plain colored floor that is mainly installed in commercial building facilities like, production halls, hospitals, abattoirs, warehouse, storage rooms, clinics, pharmaceutical buildings, shopping malls, garages, walkways, open halls etc.
They are specifically meant for the structures mentioned above for their known strength to withstand several types of abuses from daily floor users.
2) Metallic epoxy floors: they are almost same as industrial but this type is meant for residential buildings due to the beauty outlook of its special color combinations and blending.
The impact resistant ability is lower that that of pure industrial.
3) 3D Epoxy floors : this type is the normal one that everyone is familiar with because of it's look and feel beautiful outlook. This is simply a combination of 3 dimensional graphics and untainted aqua clear chemical coatings.
Now, let's look at the major benefits of installing epoxy coating in your building (residential or commercial).
1) The look and feel effects; for those who always love natural parks, 3D reflectors can give the best look and feel effects though virtually.
2) Durability: Concrete floors coated in epoxy last longer and resist considerable wear, thus saving you money and allowing you to manage other business concerns.
3) Strength: Once the epoxy has been converted to a solid polymer, it becomes incredibly strong and prevents chemical breakdown.
4) Saves time: Epoxy flooring is usually quickly and easily installed, which means less time shutting down production for installation.
5) Low maintenance cleaning: Once concrete has the epoxy coating, it is no longer porous since sealed and is therefore easier to clean.
6) Aesthetic: Coatings are usually available in an array of colors and patterns to fit your specific style.
7) Chemically resistant: Epoxy coatings can survive continued exposure to potent chemicals, which is perfect for warehouses or plants that may be exposed to such materials.
8) Safety: These coatings are also resistant to slippage, temperature, extreme impact and even fire, maintaining both the safety of your employees and your building.
9) Brightness: Typically, a high gloss option for coatings can be provided, which improves lighting in your facility to a significant degree due to reflection.
10) Lowers vehicle maintenance: Choosing an epoxy coating can also reduce wear on vehicles in your facility because it is more forgiving on machinery.
11) Helps the environment: Lastly, epoxy coatings are a green option for your business because of the reduction in material usage. It is a great alternative to adding on a completely new floor or replacing vehicles due to damage.
